It’s an election year, which means people are talking about healthcare again.

They should. Healthcare is approaching 1/5 of the entire economy. While healthcare costs grew slower last year than they have historically, they still outpace inflation and the overall level of economic growth. In other words, every year more and more of our income — both as a percentage and in absolute inflation adjusted terms — goes to cover the cost of health care and health insurance. CMS estimates that at least 1 in 4 of those dollars spent ($800B) are total waste.

Health care is “broke,” and we’re about to be too.
