GRANITE CITY — Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City is being bought by American Healthcare Systems (AHS).

On Friday AHS, a nationwide healthcare system based in Los Angeles, announced it has signed an asset purchase agreement to acquire the Granite City facility. The Gateway Regional Medical Center will join the growing AHS system of community-based hospitals, multi-specialty physician practices, outpatient clinics, and home health services.

“Becoming part of AHS is an exciting milestone for our hospital,” said Shane Watson, CEO of Gateway Regional Medical Center. “AHS shares our values to improve access to patient care by enhancing services in this important safety net hospital in the Granite City community.”
