The adoption of ambient speech technology is accelerating as health systems seek to improve documentation efficiency and reduce clinician burnout, according to a new report by KLAS. While adoption remains in its early stages—primarily in outpatient settings—health system leaders expect rapid expansion as vendors enhance capabilities and integration with EHRs.

The report stated that ambient speech solutions are evolving beyond basic note creation, with some vendors beginning to incorporate clinical decision support, structured coding suggestions, and order entry capabilities. As the technology matures, CIOs and CMIOs are evaluating vendors based on usability, return on investment (ROI), and their ability to support large-scale adoption across inpatient and ambulatory settings.
