Providers should report race and ethnicity data to correct potential racial health disparities within COVID-19 vaccine access as the rollout continues, AMA and partner organizations said.

To ensure health equity in COVID-19 vaccine access, three major healthcare industry organizations have urged healthcare professionals to improve data collection efforts regarding race and ethnicity.

In an open letter to healthcare professionals, the American Medical Association (AMA), American Nurses Association, and the American Pharmacists Association emphasized the importance of collecting and reporting race and ethnicity data when administering COVID-19 vaccinations, as it allows for a greater national understanding of whether vulnerable populations have access to the vaccine.
