“As a nurse, I know how difficult and demanding the job can be. I’ve had patients try to physically attack me and it’s frustrating and disheartening to face such hostility. When I talk to people outside of the health care field about it, they’re often shocked and ask why someone would do that. But when I bring it up with other nurses, they’re just like, “Oh, that’s just another patient.” It’s not right that we should be expected to face violence and abuse in the workplace.

I think about leaving the hospital sometimes, especially when I compare it to my experience working in home health care, which was so much more peaceful and enjoyable. I always looked forward to going...
