Researchers from Harvard Medical School (HMS) and the University of Copenhagen, in collaboration with VA Boston Healthcare System, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health says they have developed an AI model that predicts pancreatic cancer risk three years before diagnosis. The findings detailing the new model, which analyzes only a patient’s medical record, were published this week in Nature Medicine.

The findings could be used as a screening tool to hasten pancreatic cancer diagnoses—a cancer known for its high mortality since it is usually discovered when it is at a late stage—and improve treatments by starting them earlier.
