Many companies struggle to effectively manage knowledge workers—even more so in recent decades as the ratio of knowledge workers to material workers has increased significantly.
Many publications have explained the role that knowledge workers play in offering organizations intellectual capital, creativity, innovation and learning. However, the reason many managers still find it daunting to lead knowledge workers could be that managing humans is not a science, especially considering how much management practices must vary between cultures, environments and individuals.
