The American Hospital Association released a report on healthcare challenges facing rural communities, with a focus on access to high-quality and affordable care.

Nearly 20 percent of Americans live in rural areas, and subsequently depend on rural hospitals, according to the report. However, rural hospitals are struggling against a range of challenges, including ones the AHA categorized as persistent, recent and emergent.
