The medtech trade group wants the CMS to take “bold action” to cut the lag between FDA authorization of devices and Medicare coverage.

  • AdvaMed and 66 other groups have asked the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to create a streamlined pathway for covering breakthrough medical devices.
  • A letter to CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz, which AdvaMed shared Wednesday, quotes a study that found nearly six years passed between Food and Drug Administration authorization and Medicare coverage of technologies that required new reimbursement pathways.
  • AdvaMed wants Oz to accelerate access by adopting a program that mirrors parts of the withdrawn Medicare Coverage of Innovative Technology framework, known as MCIT.
