The pandemic has caused an unequalled healthcare crisis. We are now entering uncharted territory during a “post surge” period, with COVID-19 infection rates waxing and waning, and with a vaccine not yet available. Over the next year or longer, clinicians must simultaneously work to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on those at highest risk, while responding to the growing backlog of unmet general medical needs. And all of this must be accomplished in the face of growing structural constraints and challenges within our medical and social systems and during a time of personal duress for many patients and providers.
