Six Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives have written a letter to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG), decrying fraud in the home health industry and urging stronger oversight.

The letter, sent on Friday, Jan. 9 by members of the House Energy and Commerce and Ways and Means Committees, requested a meeting with the OIG to discuss the OIG’s knowledge of Medicare fraud among home health agencies and what actions could limit such fraud.

“Unfortunately, [home health agencies] and hospice programs have been prime targets for fraud,” the letter read. “Fraudulent actors in the system not only waste scarce federal resources, but they also jeopardize patient care and tarnish...
