A nurse residency program that was rolled out in 2019 by NYC Health + Hospitals has trained 5,000 nurses, New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced in a press release.

The city has implemented the on-site residency training at 28 hospitals. Since its inception, nurse retention across the city at participating facilities has risen to 96%, according to NYC Health + Hospitals, 12 percentage points above the national average.
