Fewer than 10% of Medicare Advantage plans received star ratings below three for 2024.

CMS published its star ratings for Medicare Advantage plans, which are based on contracts’ quality outcomes and member experience, on Oct. 13. The average overall rating dropped slightly from 2023 to 4.04.

Fewer than 2% of Medicare Advantage members are enrolled in contracts rated lower than three stars. Around half of the lowest-performing plans are special needs plans, designed to serve members dually-eligible for Medicaid or with specific chronic conditions.
