Wendy Anderson has watched the collision of emerging tech and the defense industry as an insider from both sides — recently as an executive at the fast-growing and controversial national security contractor Palantir, and before that as deputy chief of staff for the secretary of defense, where she worked on speeding up the integration of emerging technologies in defense missions. She is currently on the advisory board of Fuse, a nuclear testing and fusion energy company. Anderson talks to us about software as public infrastructure, and her experience with Palantir’s Covid-19 initiatives. This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity.
