Julie Scelfo is the founder of Mother’s Against Media Addiction, an organization that seeks to protect children from harmful technologies. A former reporter for The New York Times, she became involved in advocacy after covering how social media impacts young peoples’ mental health. Scelfo talks to us about why we should be wary of AI in education, and how technology can impact a child’s development.

What’s one big, underrated idea?

Just because we can give every child a screen or replace every book with a tablet doesn’t mean we should. There’s more than enough evidence that excessive screen and digital media exposure during childhood displaces all kinds of other real-world experiences...
