Hospitals are increasingly adopting artificial intelligence-powered tools to streamline workflows, support clinical decision making, diagnose diseases and generate insights from data. Below are five of the biggest healthcare AI deals Becker’s Hospital Review has reported on in 2021:

  1. Microsoft will buy speech recognition company Nuance Communications in an all-cash transaction valued at $19.7 billion, including debt assumption. Microsoft said Nuance’s technology will be used to expand its healthcare offerings for its cloud products. Nuance currently sells tools for recognizing and transcribing speech in physician visits, voicemails and more.
  2. Healthcare AI company Olive acquired Empiric Health to introduce new offerings for supply chain and clinical analysis for surgeries. Empiric Health, which originated from a Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Healthcare...
