-The government is a step ahead in promoting EHR interoperability

The federal government has gone ahead of the private sector when it comes to promoting interoperability of electronic health records (EHRs), and now it’s up to the private sector to catch up, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) administrator Seema Verma said here Tuesday.

“The federal government has already spent $36 billion on interoperability; we’ve made the investment and it’s up to the private sector to take the next step,” she said at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) annual meeting.
