The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has begun its efforts to revamp the family caregiver engagement and support programs in compliance with the VA MISSION Act, implemented earlier this year.

As part of the VA MISSION Act, the agency must expand its family caregiver support program to include caregivers of veteran patients injured on or after September 11, 2001. Now, the family caregiver program will include those who take care of family members injured during any era, the agency said.
