New data shows that racial minority patients continue to experience health disparities with patient education regarding smoking cessation despite lawmakers expanding access to Medicaid.

Researchers from UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center have uncovered that non-Latino White smokers are more likely to receive patient education regarding smoking cessation than Latino smokers, underscoring racial health disparities in health coaching.

The analysis, published in JAMA Network Open, looked at the association between race and ethnicity and health professional cessation advice and assistance among smokers with Medi-Cal insurance.
