The rural state of Oklahoma will soon have a statewide health information exchange, which officials say will boost interoperability and patient data exchange.

Following a 13-month process and a COVID-19 delay, the Oklahoma State Health Information Exchange announced it officially contracted with Orion Health for health IT support. The HIE will launch in the fall of 2021.

According to the Oklahoma Health Care Authority, the vendor signed a one-year deal with nine optional annual renewals, which could cost up to $49.8 million. State leaders expect federal dollars to cover 90 percent of the implementation costs. The state will cover the final 10 percent.
