The work is meant to promote closer and more coordinated use of SNOMED CT and Regenstrief’s LOINC terminologies, helping improve health data exchange and reduce duplication.

LOINC from Regenstrief and SNOMED International announced this week a new collaboration designed to broaden adoption of standardized terminology for health data exchange worldwide.

WHY IT MATTERS
The idea is to promote more coordinated use of SNOMED CT and LOINC by both SNOMED International and Regenstrief, the groups say – with the organizations each retaining editorial control of their respective standards.

Additionally, the new agreement targets reduction of current and potential duplication, as SNOMED and LOINC are used by an ever more intersecting group of global implementers.
