Organizations continuing an M&A approach will be those implementing a continuum of care strategy and establishing acute sites of care, report says.

Healthcare mergers and acquisitions were down in 2018, according to a new report from the healthcare advisory firm Ponder & Co., with for-profit acquisitions at their lowest in a decade.

There were 108 hospital transactions in 2018, down from the 118 deals that occurred the year before, according to Ponder, which cited analysis from other organizations.

The report pointed to a preliminary analysis from HealthCareMandA.com showing only 67 deals took place in 2018. That was compared to 82 mergers and transactions that took place the year before. Kaufman Hall found there were 90 total deals in 2018, down...
