Participation in wellness programs improved both the physical and mental health of Medicare beneficiaries, according to a recent Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation report.

Beneficiaries who took part in physical activity and nutrition wellness programs demonstrated a 14.4% improvement in strength and flexibility and a 7.7% improvement in aerobic activity. Physical activity programs in particular bumped social and mental functioning 2.4%, the website reported.

Meanwhile, chronic disease management programs were linked with a 5.9% boost of confidence in balance, a 2.7% improvement in emotional health, and a 1.7% increase in health overall. Fall prevention programs were associated with gains of 4% in emotional health and 1.9% in physical health.
