The insurer is actively creating a network of high-performing, senior-focused primary care physicians.

In yet another example of an insurer getting into the provider business to improve outcomes and control costs, Humana has acquired Family Physicians Group in Florida.

Humana is actively expanding its primary care model and is committed to creating a national footprint of high-performing, senior-focused primary care physicians, said Renee Buckingham, Humana’s segment president, Care Delivery.

“FPG advances this strategy in Central Florida,” Buckingham said.

Family Physicians Group is among the largest at-risk providers serving Medicare Advantage and managed Medicaid HMO patients in the Orlando area. It has 22 clinics in Lake, Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties.
