It has been just over two weeks since President Trump took office, and there have been significant effects already on public health.

On January 20th, on his first day in office, Trump signed an executive order initiating U.S.’s withdrawal from the World Health Organization. Although WHO may be just a question that your child asks, it is much more when considering public health. The United States contributes hundreds of millions of dollars to WHO, expecting to donate $958 million, or 15% of the WHO’s two-year budget ending in 2025.

WHO funds critical public and global health initiatives, including but not limited to infectious disease response, vaccine development and distribution as well as bolstering maternal and child health programs.
