HIMSS, HL7 International, and IHE International have announced the launch of The Global Consortium for eHealth Interoperability at the 2020 ONC Annual Meeting.

The announcement comes as the healthcare industry contends with a shortage of interoperable data formats, incomplete health information exchanges (HIE), and limited data interoperability.

The consortium aims to empower governmental agencies, health systems, and stakeholders around the world to impact interoperability standards and implementation guidance. It also intends to accomplish better patient care at a lower-cost by accelerating and deploying next-generation, API-based interoperable standards.

The founders believe the consortium can improve digital health efficiency and innovation by deploying data-sharing technologies and processes to support best practices. Ultimately, this is a cohesive environment for the global healthcare community...
