The quest for improving health care efficiency and the delivery of high-quality care is the Holy Grail for researchers, managers, physicians, economists and policymakers. The concept of value-based health care embraced this promise, and while significant progress was made in its concepts, there are still major barriers that preclude its full implementation.
Recently, the COVID-19 pandemic promoted a surge of sick patients to hospitals and ICUs and destabilized the already frail and strained health care system.
