Last week, the famed activity tracker maker and technology company Fitbit announced early results from its work regarding potentially using Fitbit products for detecting Covid-19.

This isn’t the first time the company has mentioned this project. In early May, during the height of the pandemic, Fitbit staff announced that the company would be partnering with other prominent research organizations to determine if wearables may potentially provide a valuable role in detecting infection: “Today, we are building on these [research partnerships] with the launch of the Fitbit COVID-19 Study, available right in the Fitbit app. This study will help determine whether Fitbit can help build an algorithm to detect COVID-19 before symptoms start.
