Health systems aren’t financially capable to make health IT purchases until EHR vendors make a move following the ONC interoperability rule.

One in three executive medical administrators say they are not investing in new technology until EHR vendors release solutions that adhere to the final ONC interoperability rule, according to a Black Book hospital EHR user survey.

The final interoperability rule calls on medical providers and device developers to promote patient data access through the use of third-party apps and APIs. But while health systems are waiting for the vendors to adapt to the rules, they are still having trouble exchanging patient health information.
