The European Union is moving forward with plans for a Covid-19 vaccine passport by this summer. Government officials assert that proof of vaccinations in the form of proper documentation will expedite a return to international travel.

Experts have, however, expressed concerns about the logistics, but also the equity of a vaccine passport. This doesn’t just apply within the E.U. The unintended consequence of requiring vaccine passports for travel could be to turn back some of the progress that had been made in reducing global inequity, in particular, strides in increasing mobility around the world.
