A majority of small community hospitals are looking to switch over from costly in-house EHRs to more affordable cloud-based EHRs.

Roughly 60 percent of hospitals holding less than 150 beds are unsure about their current EHR system and more than a quarter of those respondents are actively assessing the potential of a cloud-based EHR replacement system, according to a 2020 Black Book survey.

The survey consisted of 750 total respondents who worked in an administrative role. Of that total, 448 respondents are current EHR users in rural, community, and critical access hospitals. Fifty-five of those respondents are in the process of implementing a cloud-based EHR system, while 247 administrators are in the cloud-based evaluation stage.
