While Medicare beneficiaries have an “overwhelming desire” to receive care at home, skilled nursing academics argue the Choose Home Care Act of 2021 could put those same beneficiaries who require a high level of care at risk.

Marquette University’s College of Nursing this month published a debate-style article about the legislation as written, focused on its potential positive and negative effects on fee-for-service (FFS) Medicare beneficiaries.

Lisa Grabert, a Marquette research professor, edited the article. The author was a writer outside of Marquette, who chose to remain anonymous.

The article recognizes that Choose Home gives the Medicare program an “extraordinary opportunity” to better incorporate beneficiary preferences and move toward a more patient-centered care model.
