A US National Cancer Control Plan will require federal agencies to have access to a wealth of big data and advanced artificial intelligence tools.

In order to establish a US National Cancer Control Plan, government organizations will need to access big data, including social, clinical, and behavioral information, as well as artificial intelligence tools for continuous analytics, states a new report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, Medicine.

In 2018, approximately 600,000 people died from cancer, the report noted, and about 1.7 million people received a new diagnosis of cancer. The US spends nearly $600 billion each year on cancer care – a number that could reach $1 trillion in the coming years.
