In its 54-page commentary on ONC’s info blocking rule, AMIA shares its privacy and security concerns around APIs and recommends ways to address the risks, including categorizing users.

The proposed federal information blocking and interoperability rules create privacy and security concerns around the API-driven environment, given the current state of current consumer privacy protections outside of HIPAA, according to the American Medical Informatics Association.

The Office of the National Coordinator released its proposed rules on info blocking in March during HIMSS19. In a letter to ONC, AMIA provided feedback on the proposal in 54-pages of commentary, touching on a wide range of topics, including privacy and concerns posed by the proposed API-driven app ecosystem.
