-Physicians vent frustration with evolving systems

NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. — Payers are improving their efforts to make alternative payment models (APMs) work, but they still have a long way to go, several speakers said here Monday at the American Medical Association (AMA) interim meeting.

At a panel here, William Kassler, MD, MPH, deputy chief health officer and lead population health officer at IBM Watson Health, offered five “A”s and three “P”s to consider regarding APMs:

  • Aggregation of data: “We have typically worked with administrative data and that’s not going to help us solely,” said Kassler. “Claims data lag … We now have EHR [electronic health record] data, but … you have to go out and find it. But we...
